Courses

  1. The course will be displayed from the mast on the Race Committee Boat by red or green placards with Mark numbers reading from top to bottom in order in which they are to be rounded. The top number indicates the first turning Mark, etc. Mark numbers on green shall be left to yacht's starboard side; red to the port side.
  2. The lake is divided into six sectors as shown below. Marks are assigned the number of the sector in which they are placed. A Mark may be placed in any portion of its sector to provide the most competitive and fairest course possible for the prevailing weather conditions.
  3. Map:
  4. In general, a triangular course shall be set. That is, a Windward Leg followed by two Offwind Legs. The Jibing Mark should be located at approximately half the distance between the Leeward and the Windward mark and offset the appropriate distance to Port or Starboard of the Windward Mark.
  5. If the prevailing wind does not permit the setting of a single Windward Leg of adequate length, an "X" course shall be set. That is, a Windward Leg followed by an Offwind Leg, a second Windward Leg and another Offwind Leg.
  6. The Olympic and Modified Olympic courses provide a triangle with a windward, leeward and windward legs to the finish. The Olympic course starts at the leeward mark and finishes at the windward mark. The Modified Olympic course starts and finishes at the same position. The Olympic course will be designated with a red "0" on a white back ground on the Committee Boat. If a number appears below an individual Fleets insignia, the number indicates additional triangles to be sailed prior to the windward-leeward windward legs. For example, if a 2 appears below a Fleet, that Fleet would sail a triangle, another triangle, then a windward- leeward-windward leg. Olympic 0
  7. The Starting Line is between the Mast of the Race Committee Boat and a Mark with CODE FLAG V (Red X on white) or, if not present, the nearby Mark of the Course.
  8. The Finish Line is between the designated Course Mark ma the Mast of the Race Committee Boat, which will display a BLUE SHAPE when on station.
  9. Course Marks are large YELLOW BARRELS and the CODE FLAG V.
  10. The Displayed Course for a Class may not be changed after that Class's WARNING (10 minute) Signal without a POSTPONEMENT. However, the Starting Line may be shifted to conform with wind direction up to the PREPARATORY (5 minute) signal. The position of the Course Mark for any Leg may be moved anywhere within the Displayed sector (see 2.) up to the time the first yacht begins to sail that Leg.
  11. Order of Starts and number of Laps for each Fleet shall be displayed on the side of the Race Committee Boat.
